At the Nicholas Library, we don’t believe in Valentine’s Day – we believe in LIBRARY LOVERS DAY! We’ve started the new year with a display of books about lurve. And why not go on a blind date with a book? Choose one of our pretty pink and purple parcels of mystery and see if you’re a perfect match!
Well, we’ve moved the library into our new space – so far, so good! Come over to the MDC and visit us; we look just like a real library. We’ll be in this location for the next 8-12 months while the renovations are happening, then we get to move into a brand new sparkly library space. We’re pretty excited about that!
To celebrate all this excitement, I thought I’d post up the latest trailer for a film I know you’re all looking forward to: Catching Fire. What do we think?
Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a great holiday and are excited to start the new year!
When you pop into the library (probably to return your holiday reading, hint hint), you’ll see that things have changed! Our big ugly tall shelves have been replaced by nice new sleek white ones and we’ve opened up the study space in the middle of the library. Looks a bit like this:
All the non-fiction is now housed on these white shelves – it might take a little bit of getting used to to find your way around, but feel free to ask one of the librarians if you feel a bit lost. Pretty soon, we’ll have clear labels up on the ends of the shelves so you can easily find exactly what you’re looking for. Our new year displays are ‘The Roaring Twenties’ and ‘Love is in the Air’ (check them out here), featuring a whole range of interesting books for you to read.
Keep an eye on this blog for a whole lot of book and film reviews (yes, I saw The Hobbit…twice), and if you want to receive an email alert every time a new post appears, simply subscribe to the blog using the sign up button on the right.
It’s going to be an awesome year, methinks!!
Ms White 🙂
If you wander around the Nicholas Library, you’ll soon notice that some of the books have stars stuck to their covers. We have three types of stars – ‘Book of the Week’, ‘Highly Recommended’ ‘New to the Library’. ‘Book of the week is pretty self explanatory! Any books with ‘Highly Recommended’ means that the novel has been read by either a student or by the library staff and has been enjoyed. ‘New to the Library’ stars are put on the new books – usually the ones we’ve heard the most buzz about.
So if you see a book with a star on it, don’t be afraid to borrow it! And if you’d like to recommend a book to us, please let us know so we can slap a ‘Highly Recommended’ star on it. Here’s what to look for:
