Only 9 days to go!

There’s only 9 days to go until ‘The Hunger Games’ film opens in Australia.  Apparently, the interest in this film has been building at an alarming rate – cinemas are putting on more sessions and they’re selling out in an instant! Seems like the whole world is waiting for the games to begin…

I thought I’d put up a photo to get us in the mood – if you click on it, you’ll be linked to the official Hunger Games website, where you can find a whole lot of cool information about the film.

Stay tuned on MyClasses for details about a Hunger Games book club, where we can chat about the books, the film and the characters.

The wait is over (x2)!

Well girls, the wait is over – for two big releases!

This past week has been pretty exciting when it comes to new books and films.   Last Thursday (2nd September) was the official release date for the film version of Tomorrow When The War Began.  Copies of John Marsden’s novel have been flying off the shelves; it seems that many girls are really keen to read (or re-read) the novel before they see the film.

So far, reviews of the film have been fairly positive, but it would be great to hear what the St Catherine’s girls thought of the film.  Did it live up to expectations? Which parts of the novel have been changed?

The other new release that has caused excitement in the library is the publication of the final installment in Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy: Mockingjay.  The Hunger Games novels have been supremely popular ever since their release – Collins is shaping up to be as popular a writer as a certain Ms Meyer!

Mockingjay is just as brutal as the previous two novels, and focuses quite heavily on the politics that exist between the Districts and the Capitol.  Ms Shortal said she enjoyed it, and it certainly made her think.  Have any of you read it? Feel free to post a comment and tell us what you thought of it.

Word on the street is that a film version of The Hunger Games is already on the way, with Collins herself writing the script.

We have two copies of Mockingjay in the library – but you’ll need to get in quick!
